FAQ'S for my Newborn Portrait Experience
Baby's first professional portraits, Newborn Session
As a parent, your baby grows in the blink of an eye. It's important to have photos at every stage of their lives, especially as a newborn. Newborn portraits can help you remember really how tiny and precious your baby was, in their early stage of life.
Have you wondered what's the best way to introduce and welcome the newest addition to your family? A newborn portrait experience might be the perfect way to capture such an amazing moment in your lives. A lot of parents won't know where to start or don't know what to expect when it comes to a newborn portrait session. This list will guide you through and answer some of the common questions new parents may have.
What's the best age to have a photo session?
Within two weeks of birth is best for showcasing those curly fetal poses. When they are this little newborns pose with ease for the cutest positions and will spend most of the time sleeping. A newborn grows so quickly, a one month old compared to a newborn will look completely different, so it's important to capture them while they are this tiny. Over two weeks old, babies also begin to move more and want to be awake more, this can make a session last longer.
When should I book my newborn session?
The sooner you can book your session, the better! I like to recommend the second or third trimester of your pregnancy, this way we can schedule an appointment prior to your baby's arrival. It's a good way to make sure your photographer is available during the first two weeks of your baby's arrival.
What happens if my baby arrives early or later than expected?
Babies arrive on their own time, when they are ready. As a newborn photographer, I am prepared for this situation and will hold time around the scheduled session to ensure the newborn is captured during their first two weeks. Once your session fee is paid you are guaranteed an opening within the two weeks of birth.
How long does a session usually last?
The average newborn photo session is between 2-4 hours. However every baby is different, some will need to be fed or relaxed by the parent. Some need a lot of attention and others just sleep, so the time can vary. The studio is always stocked with refreshments and snacks while you wait, indulge in our client fridge with organic beverages and healthy options. It also includes spots to relax, this can give parents a good time to catch up on some sleep with a quick nap.
How should my newborn be dressed for the session?
It's best to bring your baby in something easy to take off when they arrive. This way we can make sure your newborn won't have any clothing marks on their skin and we can undress them if they are asleep. You do not need to worry about bringing outfits. I have many cute outfits planned out to match the theme of your choice or I will do a nude portrait of the little one, based on our discovery call.
What do I need to bring to my session?
It's important to bring all the typical items you would normally put in a diaper bag when you go out with baby, a pacifier, a blanket, diapers, wipes, formula if baby is bottle fed, and a burp rag for your baby. A familiar blanket and pacifier is a great way to keep your baby calm for longer. However, feeding and burping the baby will usually do the trick! We are always patient and if baby needs to feed at any time, it's always a good reason for a pause.
